- 1 cup green moong dal (split green gram), soaked for 4 hours
- 1 teaspoon fennel seeds (saunf)
- 1 teaspoon chilli powder
- a pinch turmeric powder (haldi)
- 1 tablespoon oil
- salt to taste
- oil for cooking
